A presentation titled Early Entrepreneurs of Fairfield will be led by the two major researchers for the upcoming local history film "Ahead of Their Time"; Research Director Lawrence Eyre, M.A. and Dick DeAngelis, director and producer of the Fairfield History Series. They have been gathering local and state resources to provide needed insight into Native American trading patterns, struggles between men and women of early medicine as well as stories of the early days of this areas' pioneers of industry.
They will give a presentation of stories related to their research via live-stream Zoom presentation at 2 pm on Saturday, June 27, 2020. Projections of old pictures will be used to supplement the presentation.
This event will continue to stimulate interest in local history as it relates to this townʼs spirit of entrepreneurship. In particular, it will shed some light on what it takes to persevere despite substantial impediments to success and eventually contribute to the betterment of oneʼs community. Some of the research will focus particularly on local women in history whose contributions have been forgotten or ignored. For example, one of the first self-made women millionaires in the Midwest, Dr. Mrs. Rebecca J. Keck, who started her herbal remedy practice in Fairfield, Iowa shortly after the Civil War.
