Palestine Library Friends, Inc. exists to “foster among its members and the general public an enriched recognition, utilization, and support of the Palestine Public Library and its facilities and services. It shall engage in such programs, services, fund raising, and other activities that support this purpose.”

In current economic times, the Library is more important than ever, providing free computer classes and doctor-recommended free Tai Chi classes to help people keep fit. Programming for adults and youth on a variety of educational and informative topics; art exhibits; displays; exceptional genealogy and local history department; all the latest books, MP3 and CD audio books, downloadable audio and ebooks, databases, and DVDs; many popular magazines for youth and adults, and newspapers including Palestine, Tyler, Dallas, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today; Interlibrary Loan; business resources; computers and WiFi all contribute to the vital role the Library plays in people’s lives.

One of the ways the Friends organization helps the library is funding the Summer Reading Club program for youth. Other support activities have included purchasing a digital microfilm reader, a display cabinet, a server, an RFID station, and, of course, books. The Friends conduct several very popular Book Sales each year. The Friends also host receptions at the Library for Embrace the Arts, recognition for service, retirements, and the like.

Palestine Public Library is recognized as being a quality-of-life indicator known as a place for education and enjoyment for the entire family.
