We are now able to offer Wi-Fi hotspots! Users (ages 18 and older) with a Portland Public Library card that has been active for at least 30 days may borrow a FREE hotspot. The loan period for hotspots is 7 days, and if there is no wait list, they may be renewed for an additional 7-day period. Hotspot holds and check-outs are limited to one per household. Children's Programs
LAPSIT – FOR KIDS UNDER 3 (Friday mornings at 10:30)
These are programs for infants and toddlers under age 3 and their caregivers. The program lasts around 30 minutes. It includes books/stories, lots of songs, nursery rhymes and fingerplays (older siblings are allowed to attend/participate when necessary). Our weekly program revolves loosely around a theme.
October 6: Brothers & Sisters: Stories, songs, rhymes, and (always) stickers.
October 13: Fire Fighters & Fire Trucks: Stories, songs, rhymes, & stickers!
October 20: Who do you want to be?: Stories, songs, and rhymes about pretending.
October 27: Halloween: Stories, songs, & rhymes about Halloween. Plus, stickers at the end.
Wednesday Mornings at 10:30am (for kids ages 3-5)
October 4: Builders & Carpenters - Your kind of job? Then we will play with DUPLO blocks.
October 11: Fire Fighter Stories: It's fire prevention week. Music, movement, & a coloring page.
October 18: Bats, Cats, & Rats - scary Halloween animals: Music, movement, & a coloring page!
October 25: Halloween Fun: Stories, games, songs, & FUN! Come in costume!
Wednesday Afternoons at 3:30pm (for Kindergarten & older)
October 4: Around the World week 4: Chapters 7 & 8. Projects: Swirling Vortex (science) and Snowflakes in October (art).
October 11: Around the World week 5 - Chapters 9 & 10. Projects: Create Carbon (science) & Wind Powered Vehicle (engineering).
October 18: All about Inventors & Inventions: Then use leftover stuff to create a group "thing".
October 25: A SPECIAL GUEST TODAY: Come in costume for some Halloween Party Fun!

FAMILY EVENTS (ALL AGES)
Crochet Club: October 7th, 21st, & 28th at 10:30am
All are welcome regardless of skill level. Ages 10 & up. Bring a hook & yarn!
October 14th: Solar Eclipse Exhibit - Pop in any time between 9:15 & 11:30 for some Solar Eclipse Fun! We will have free glasses (beginning October 10th - while supplies last) for those who want to watch the eclipse with us.
October 28th: Join us for our second annual Halloween Spooktacular! We'll havbe a haunted mansion maze, a monster hunt, candy, crafts, and more. Costumes are encouaged! Drop in any time between 9:30 & 12:30. It's going to be a spook-tacular time! Open to all ages.
Teen Programs for middle & high schoolers (Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:00 pm)
October 5: Paintbrush Rainbow: Ms. Marla will take a black & white portrait picture of you with her phone before today. She will print the protraits & today we will use wide paintbrushes for this colorful activity.
October 12: Sid's Toys (from Toy Story): We will create new toys from old toy pieces.
October 19: GAME DAY! Here we go.! The challenge is on! It's finally Game Day @PPL for Middle/High Schoolers. Come by, hang out, and enjoy some fun & laughs with friends!
October 26: Dress up Dead! Choose your dead self, dress up in your dead outfit, and join us at the library for a telling of your death & life. Halloween treat bags for all in attendance.
Adult Programs
Bingo: Every Tuesday at 1:00 PM
Join in on the fun of friendly competition as Ms. Vicki calls out the numbers, and the race is on to yell out "BINGO." Prizes awarded to winners.
Genealogy Club: October 7th at 10am
William Boyd will be joining us to speak about "photo identification". Come and learn with us!
Veteran's Representative: Wednesday, October 11th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in a study room
A rep from the Sumner County Veteran's Service Office will be available to help any vetran or veteran's spouse with questions or filling out forms. No appointment necessary. First come, first serve basis.
Crafts with Payton: Tuesday, October 17th at 2:30 PM
Join Payton to make a Fall/Halloween theme craft! Sign-ups are required. Class limit: 15 people.
Page Turners Book Club: Thursday, October 19th at 11:30 AM
This month's novel, Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See, celebrates the bond between mother & daughter.
