In the early 2000s, Miranda Montana, Germaine St. Germaine-Chang, and Sicily Bell rose to fame as preteen stars on the Mickey Mouse Clubesque Kidz Klub, but after the show went off the air, they were better known for their late-night partying and scandalous exploits, getting dubbed the “3AM Girls” by the tabloids. In the ensuing decades, all three strive to construct identities that separate themselves from their 3AM Girl personas. Whether it’s through Miranda’s struggles with addiction, Sicily’s naivete with every man who shows her affection, or Germaine’s inability to establish herself separately from her family’s hotel empire, readers will see the way patterns are broken only to reemerge again and again. Despite being split into three time lines (2006–08, 2018, and 2028), the novel’s pace never flags as the women pursue the different opportunities available to them in their quests for fulfillment. While this delivers as a frothy and entertaining fictional exposé with clear parallels to Lindsay, Britney, and Paris, it also offers a moving look at resilience and redemption for three women who had few people they could trust, except one other.
