Kindergarten Library Card Campaign

Each year the Greenwood County Library System kicks off the school year with our annual Kindergarten Library Card Campaign. This year we will continue the campaign but the applications will be online for safety reasons.

How to Register Your Child for a Library Card Online

1. Click on the link below and fill out the application.

  • The application will ask for information from the parent as well, including their SC Driver's License/ID Card #.
  • You will also have to select which branch of the Greenwood County Library System you wish to pick up your child's card at. The Library will not mail out children's cards.

2. Once your child's application has been processed (Between 2-3 business days) a Librarian will call you to let you know you can pick up your child's card. We will give you the card number to access online resources until you can pick up your child's card in person. You must pick up the card to check out physical materials. *Please bring your SC Driver's License or ID when picking up your child's card!

If you do not receive a call from a Librarian within 2-3 business days, contact us at (864) 941-3041.

Why Should You Get Your Child a Library Card?

  1. It's FREE! Your child can check out 25 items on a card. 25 books can get a bit expense! Encourage your child to make their own reading choices and find new authors and subjects to read without breaking the budget.

  2. A library card of their own gives children a sense of priveledge and responsbility. Checking out a book on their own card that they picked out themselves can be a powerful moment in your child's life.

  3. We have computers just for kids in the Children's Room! Do homework or play education games with your library card!

  4. The Library card goes beyond the building. Access our online resources. There are ebook for young readers through Overdrive, online magazines through Flipster, and even music you can download through Freegal. Visit our Digital Library page to find more. Don't forget to check out Tumblebooks for Read Alongs, storybooks, ebooks and more!

  5. We have tons a storytimes and programs throughout the year. While we are not doing in person programming right now due to COVID-19, we are creating online programs so check out our YouTube Channel or follow the Greenwood County Library System on Facebook or Twitter. You can even watch past videos on our Children's Events page and the WS and NS Branch pages.
