- Policies
OVERVIEW & PURPOSE
The purpose of Grafton Public Library’s electronic sign is to communicate information to the community. This policy specifies which individuals and groups may have their messages displayed on the sign, and outlines the priorities of its usage.
Who can have a message on the sign:
- Primarily, the sign should promote and market library services, programs, resources and library-sponsored and co-sponsored events. Priority will be given to promoting library-sponsored programs, events and services.
- Messages may also be displayed for the City of Grafton, Grafton Fire Department, Grafton Community Action, Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Depot Committee to promote not-for-profit events, programs, and activities that are open to the public. Materials should be informative in nature.
- The Library Director, or his/her designee, is responsible for entering content on the sign.
- Other individuals or organizations from Grafton may be permitted to have a message displayed at the Library Director’s discretion, provided the message meets the criteria for allowed content.
Content:
- Copyrighted content requires written permission from the copyright holder. This must be provided along with the request to display proposed content.
- Messages only stay up for 5-10 seconds, so long messages are not appropriate.
- There is no fee to have a message displayed on the sign.
- Proposed content for display on the sign should be submitted to the Library Director 1-2 weeks prior to the intended display date. Content submission requests may be delivered in person or sent by email to graftonlib@wctatel.net.
These items are not permitted:
- Displays of commercial messages and activities are prohibited.
- Displays of political messages and activities are prohibited.
- The library reserves the right to reject any material submitted that is deemed unsuitable for display.
Alternatives:
Content that cannot be displayed on the Grafton Public Library’s electronic sign may be posted on the various community bulletin boards in Grafton, such as the Library’s bulletin board at the south entrance, the bulletin board at the post office, and the bulletin board at the Farmer’s State Bank. If appropriate to the City of Grafton’s guidelines, announcements might also be posted on the city’s sign at the corner of 3rd Street & 4th Avenue.
The use of the Grafton Public Library’s electronic sign by a group or individual in no way implies library endorsement of the message presented.
