LIBRARY CARDS

Getting a Library Card:
Library cards are issued free to anyone residing within Kleberg County. Proof of current address is required at the time of registration. Children ages 5 through 17 may be issued a library card when the application is also signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Non-Residents:
For those residing outside Kleberg County, a fee of $7.00 is charged for an annual membership. Family Cards are available for $25.00 annually and are issued individually to each family member. Non-residents library cards may be used in the library with the same rules applying to Kleberg County residents.

LOAN PERIODS

Library "loan" periods are: 3 Days - 7 Days - 14 Days

Books, paperbacks, talking-books and language tapes are loaned for 14 days. JE holiday books, periodicals, music CD's and DVD's/VHS items are loaned for 7 days. Any valid cardholder may check out up to 4 JE holiday books, and up to 4 periodicals per title. Most library items may be renewed twice. Circulating AV equipment is loaned for 3 working days with the approval of the Library Director. No library items may be renewed by phone. Loan periods for the following items are as followed:

--Books/Paperbacks--2 weeks, no renewals over the phone
--Talking-books--2 weeks, no renewals over the phone
--Language Tapes--2 weeks, no renewals over the phone
--JE Holiday Books--1 week, no renewals over the phone
--Periodicals--1 week, no renewals over the phone
--VHS/DVD's/Music CD's--1 week, no renewals over the phone

Late Materials:
Overdue rates are $.05 per day per item. Overdue rates are $.05 per day per item for Interlibrary Loan materials. All media items should be returned directly to the Circulation Desk. Media items left in the outside book drop are subject to a $3.00 penality fee per item. AV media materials returned to the library NOT rewound are subject to a $.25 penality fee per item. Borrowing privileges will be suspended when fines reach $2.00 for both adults and for children until fines/fees are paid in full. Borrowing privileges will be suspended for patrons with materials overdue for 14 days or more or until all materials are returned and fines/fees paid in full.

Notation regarding AV media materials:
Any person 18 or older with a valid adult Robert J. Kleberg Public Library card may check out up to up to 3 music CD's, VHS video cassettes and/or DVD's per card. Any valid cardholder may check out up to 6 talking-books per card. Patrons will be charged for any damaged, lost or stolen music CD's, VHS video cassettes, DVD's, and talking-books. Becasuse of copyright laws, all media items are restricted to home use only.
