Library Cards

What services require a library card?
A library card is required to borrow circulated cataloged items (including downloadable e-books and audiobooks) and access purchased databases. Other limitations may apply.

Who can get a library card?
Residents of Sumner County may apply for a two-year library card.

Adult Tennessee residents who do not reside in Sumner County may apply for a one-year non-resident library card. 

To apply for a library card: 
Resident adults must show a photo identification and proof of current Sumner County Address. 
Non-residents must show a photo identification. See the list below for acceptable forms of ID.

Adult resident cardholders may open accounts for minors under 18 for whom they are legally responsible.  The parent or legal guardian must show their photo ID (as noted above) and their library card; the minor must be present. Parents and guardians are responsible for all materials checked out on their children's cards.  Resident minors 16 and over may open accounts for themselves, provided they have an acceptable form of ID and proof of address.

Borrower Types
Adult: Adults 18 and older; limited to fifteen items, other limitations may apply.
Teen with Internet Permission: teens (12-16) whose parents have completed the internet permission form; and for teens age 17. Limited to eight items, other limitations may apply. These teens may use our public internet access computers.
Teen: teens (12-16) whose parents have not completed the internet permission form. Limited to eight items, other limitations may apply. These teens may not use our public internet access computers.
Children: children (3-11); limited to five items, other limitations may apply.
Non-Resident: Adults 18 and older; limited to fifteen items, other limitations may apply.

Terms and conditions
Library cards are non-transferable. Each borrower is financially responsible for loss or damage to any materials checked out on his/her card. Parents and guardians are responsible for all materials checked out on their children's cards.

Lost or stolen library cards should be reported immediately. Borrower is responsible for all materials checked out and any charges incurred until we are notified that a card has been lost / stolen.

We charge $1.00 for replacement of a lost or stolen card.

Borrowed materials must be returned within the proper loan period. Fines will be assessed for materials returned after the loan period.  Books and audiobooks may be renewed once, provided there are no reserves on the material.  Item limits, and other loan limits, may apply.

Borrowing privileges may be suspended or revoked for violation of library policies.
