Immigration has perennially been part of the American social and political discourse. This thematically arranged volume explores immigration in the U.S. through primary documents. The first part (10 documents) explores the immigrant experience via documents written by immigrants. The second part (4 documents) gives voice to critics of immigration. Legislation is immigration's primary driver, hence the next section (10 documents), which outlines major legislation. The last section (7 documents) focuses on relevant Supreme Court cases and executive actions. The selection is not intended to be complete. However, each chapter aptly outlines good historical analysis. Each essay starts with an overview, the impetus for writing, and a thumbnail biography. Following the primary document (complete or partial) is a document analysis and summary of recurring themes, followed by additional sources. An excellent resource for high-school history courses.--Hassanali, Muhammed Copyright 2017 Booklist
