The Board of Trustees of the Maud Preston Palenske Memorial Library have adopted these Rules of Conduct to promote a safe and orderly atmosphere in the Library, to provide reasonable access to the facility for all persons, and to insure that all individuals will have fair and equal opportunities to use the Library's resources.
Persons using the Library shall:
1. Speak in a normal voice so that other library users or library staff are not bothered by undue noise.
2. Behave in a courteous manner so that all may use the library without interference or disruption.
3. Wear appropriate clothing, including shoes and shirts, at all times.
4. Confine the use of cell phones to the North Lobby, the Gallery, or the hallway outside of the Children's Room.
5. Use radios, personal CD players, and other similar devices at very low volume so that other persons do not hear them.
6. Adhere to the policies and procedures for use of computers and the internet.
Use of tobacco products is prohibited at the library.
No food or drinks will be permitted in the computer use areas.
Persons using the library shall not:
1. Solicit or beg, sleep or loiter. (Loitering is defined as remaining in the Library without being engaged in Library-related activities).
2. Damage Library property.
3. Possess, consume, or be under the influence of intoxicants or controlled substances (except as may be authorized by prescription).
4. Bring weapons into the library or use such devices while in the building. (Exception: law enforcement officers).
Persons who violate these rules may be asked to leave the library for the remainder of the day. Any person who refuses to leave the library or returns prior to the authorized time will be subject to arrest and prosecution for trespass.
Persons who violate the library's Internet use policy may lose computer privleges as follows:
1st violation: 7 days
2nd violation: 30 days
3rd violation: 60 days
Any person who repeatedly violates these rules may be denied access to the library upon written notice for a period of up to 90 days. Any person denied such acess may appeal the denial to the Library Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees shall provide the person with an opportunity to be heard before deciding the appeal.
