Library Cards
Library cards are free for residents of Gillespie County who are six years of age or older. For persons under seventeen and under, we will need to see their parent's or legal guardian's ID.
Residents of adjoining counties (Kerr, Llano, Blanco, Kendall, Kimble, Mason) can get a library card for $5 a year.
Temporary residents of Gillespie County (three months or more) can get a library card for $5 for the year.
Residents of Texas who have a TexShare card from their home library can get a library card. However there are some restrictions, so contact the library for more information.
Patrons can get their library card at Pioneer Memorial Library (115 West Main St). They will need to show a valid picture ID with their current address. If the patron does not have a picture ID or their ID does not have an updated address, we will need to see a document with their correct address on it.
This kind of document can be:
- Mortgage, lease, or rental agreement
- Utility or cell phone bill
- Bank statement
- Auto insurance
- Postmarked envelope
Patrons can either bring in physical copies of these documents or show them to us digitally on their phone.
Library cards must be presented at time of checkout.
Library cards expire after three years (as of August 6th, 2025), in which the patron needs to come into the library with their ID to get it renewed.
Out of County cards and Temporary Cards expire after 1 year.
If a patron loses their library card, they can get it replaced for free. They just need to come to the library with a valid photo ID or one of the documents above.
When a patron is logging in on their online account or accessing Libby, they will be asked for a PIN number. Their PIN number is the last five digits of their library card number, which can be found on the back of the card.
Materials & Check-Out
With a library card, a patron will have the ability to check-out materials from Pioneer Memorial Library, such as:
- Books
- Magazines
- DVDs
- Books on CD
- STEAM kits
Patrons will also have access to materials on Libby using their library card number and PIN.
Books, magazines, books on CD, and STEAM kits can be checked out for two weeks (fourteen days). If the due date arrives and the material is not on hold for another patron, it will be auto-renewed for another two weeks. DVDs can be checked out for one week (seven days) and will auto renew for 1 week (seven days). Materials can also be renewed at the circulation desk or through a patron's online account.
There are no fines for late materials (as of January 1st, 2025) unless the material is an Interlibrary Loan. If the material is lost or damaged, the patron can either pay the cost of the item or replace it with a brand new copy. A material is considered "lost" when it has been overdue for more than six weeks.
The patron will receive a paper receipt or have one emailed to them at check-out with the due date. If they lose this receipt, they may find the due date by accessing their online account or calling the library.
If we do not have a book in our collection that you would like to check-out, you can request it through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). We will put in a request to other libraries around Texas, who can then send a copy from their collection for you to read. The cost for an ILL is $0.75 to cover postage. Books may sometimes take a few weeks to be sent to us; it depends on other libraries and shipping times. We will call you when we recieve your ILL copy or if we are not able to recieve a copy. We can only request ILLs for books that are older than six months from their publication date.
You can request an ILL by using our Interlibrary Loan Request Form or by calling the library at 830-997-6513.
Computer Use & Printing
We have several computers for patrons to use at the library. There is one computer available for internet access in the young people's room downstairs, and there are six computers available in the adult's room upstairs.
Patrons will need their library card in order to access the computers, as it will ask for their full library card number. If a person is a visitor to the library, they may receive a guest pass.
Computer use is limited to one hour per day. However, patrons can have this time extended through the computer they are using or by asking a staff member.
All patron computers have internet access and word-processing capabilities.
We also have free, unlimited WiFi which can be accessed from patron's personal devices.
Patrons can print any documents as needed. Printing is $0.15 per page in black-and-white and one-sided. When printing from a library computer, the patron will simply go to print their document as normal and pick up their prints at the circulation desk.
If the patron has their documents to print on their phone, they can send the documents to print.princh.com and pick up their prints at the circulation desk. Printer ID is 112396. Prints must be picked up before the end of the same day.

We also provide a copier downstairs, which is $0.15 per page to print.
