Gr. 2^-3. The story of Medusa translates remarkably well in this offering from the All Aboard Reading series. Part of the reason the book works so well is Swan's well-conceived and beautifully executed paper-cut art, which seems just perfect for illustrating everything from the folds on a Grecian toga to a head full of snakes. The text is good, too. Spinner does an excellent job of reducing the story while still keeping all its exciting moments in the forefront. Here's a story that stands on its own for new readers but also may lead them into beginning books on mythology. --Ilene Cooper
