Gr. 1. On a hot day on the farm, a small, panting brown dog tries to get cool, but he is chased away by everyone. The words are as simple as you can get ("Dog is hot. Mom is not"), and the bright, cartoonlike double-page spreads extend the scenarios with farce and mess ("Oh, no, Dog!") as he gets into trouble with Mom, cat, sheep, pig, skunk, etc., until a small girl lets him into the pool.
