Gr. 1. Bear picks up the branches, deer brings the broom, kitten finds the mittens; all the animals take part in an activity that new readers may be able to guess: they are making a snowman. Some repetition of unfamiliar words (such as branches) will help kids add to their vocabulary. The cartoon-style art uses pure colors and touches of humor to move the story along.
