PreS-Gr 2?Simple rhyming stories introduce long vowel sounds in these phonics primers. The books feature bright, full-color illustrations. The narration is clear on all the tapes. Beginning readers are introduced to homonyms, digraphs, and word patterns. Activities to extend the lessons appear at the back of each book. The flash card words and ideas for parents and children working together could be used successfully at home or in classrooms. While these are good teaching tools, children will find the stories lacking. The characters, all animals, are flat. The females are feminine, sweet, and play very traditional roles. These are a reasonable choice for libraries with a demand for phonics materials.?Angela J. Reynolds, West Slope Community Library, Portland, OR (c) Copyright 2010.
