Donations & Memorials

Used Book Donations

Pioneer Memorial Library welcomes donations that are clean, dry, and mold-free. They are checked by a staff member, who determines if the donations can be added to the collection. If not, they are passed to the Friends, who add them to their used book store or for one of their book sales.

Donation Guidelines:

  • You can bring your donations to Pioneer Memorial Library. You can bring them in and take them to the Conference Room/Used Book Store, where they can be left on the long table. If you need assistance bringing in your donations, please ask a staff member.
  • Donations are accepted any time the library is open.
  • Bring your materials in boxes or bags that can be left at the library.
  • Inspect your donations! If you wouldn't give it to a friend, please don't give it to the library.

We gladly accept:

  • Hardcover and paperback books in good condition
  • DVDs and audiobooks in their original cases

We do NOT accept:

  • CDs, VHS, cassettes
  • Textbooks
  • Magazines
  • Encyclopedias
  • Medical books
  • Reader's Digest condensed books
  • Outdated materials
  • Books with missing covers or pages
  • Items that are unhealthy to handle, dirty, moldy, smelly, chewed, wet, or otherwise damaged

 


Memorials

The library accepts memorials donors who wish to memorialize a deceased individual. When the library receives a request, funds will be accepted to acquire the materials, furniture, or other items requested. They will also be memorialized with a plaque in the material(s) or furniture.

There are two options for payees when it comes to memorials:

  • Make the check payable to Gillespie County and put in the memo that it is for Pioneer Memorial Library.
  • Make the check payable to Friends of Pioneer Memorial Library

Please include what you would wish the memorial to be earmarked for (specific books, furnishings, etc.)

When mailing the memorial check, please mail it to:

Otherwise, you can drop it off at the library.

If the donor would like to be notified or to notify a family member of the deceased individual that the memorial was made, please offer a mailing address when submitting the request.
