Teen Department

Programming

In an effort to reach teens, the library offers a wide range of innovative and creative programming that reflects the needs and identities of all teens in the parish. The library offers both staff-led and teen-led programs and events, with the goal of promoting literacy, leadership, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, while also supporting the engagement, growth, and achievement of teens. Programs offered in the past include movie and game nights, crafts, cultural celebrations, college readiness sessions, and outdoor competitions and games.

Databases & Technology

The library provides various electronic resources both for educational research and enjoyment. Check our our online databases for things like Homework Louisiana, Gale Virtual Reference Library, Hoopla, Overdrive, NoveList, and Driving-Tests.org.
Teens are also welcome to use the library's in-house computers with their library card.

Teen Adviory Board (TAB)

The Teen Advisory Board is comprised of teen library patrons, ages 11 – 17 (6th – 12th grade), who take an active role in the operation of the Teen Department by sharing ideas about activities and collection materials. Their suggestions are used by staff to make the library more inviting for teens and young adults. TAB meets twice a month and consists of no more than 7 members at a time, each committing to serve a one-year term and attend at least two teen activities.

Summer Reading Program

The Summer Reading Program encourage teens to read a little bit each day in order to have fun and keep their minds sharp over the summer. They can explore their interests and discover new authors while keeping track of the number of hours they read on in order to earn great prizes. Programs and events related to the summer's theme take place once a week.

Outreach & Field Trips to the Library

We'll bring the fun to you! The library provides various services and programs throughout the community in order to fully serve our patrons. Outreach events in the past have included local high school health fairs, football games, school library events, and community nursing home visits. In the future we plan to provide workforce and college readiness workshops, animal shelter assistance, make-and-take crafts, and book clubs. Call our teen programmer to set up a date and time.
